The Qualities
Quadruplicities or Modalities
Every person carries every Quality
Within the Astro Life Alliance System, Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable Qualities are present in all of us in different complementary amounts. Circumstances, emotions, needs, desires, and Life Chart positions help determine which Quality comes forward. One part of us begins, another sustains, and another adjusts or completes.
There are three groups containing four (4) signs, with each group having a set influenced by like Qualities. The groups are referred to as the Quadruplicities (i.e., modalities or modes). The Qualities use their influences to complement the Elements to begin, stabilize, and end things. The individual Qualities represent how they influence the Elements [(aka, the Signs) to which they are dedicated] to project and enact their distinct abilities, habits, outlooks on life, and the way they approach various situations, environments, people, etc.
With the exception of the Source of their creation, they influence birth, (sustained) life (for a period), and death, which completes the process.
The Qualities of all the Quads are within every one of us. They are presented at different times, according to circumstances, emotions, needs, desires, etc.
Next is a brief and simple explanation of what the Qualities that the Signs of a Quad are expected to have in common and display via their Sun and Moon Sign Elements, and physical beings.

The Cardinal Quality Signs are: Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn
The four Cardinal Signs are considered the originators, initiators, motivators, and creators. You will notice that they are the signs that are aligned with the beginning of the seasons. As such, they symbolize fresh starts, taking action, and motivating forward drive. The Cardinal Houses are in the First, Fourth, Seventh, and Tenth positions on the Life Chart.
How the Qualities move through life
Planetary positions at the time of birth determine the weaknesses and strengths of the “outer planetary influences,” i.e., the influences of the true planets that reside in space. Still, we shouldn’t overlook the “inner planetary influences,” which are the people, places, and things we encounter in life. They may profoundly affect our lives by directly or indirectly causing suppression or amplification of the Qualities (especially during our early years of existence).
In general, the three aims of the qualities are to begin, sustain, and end. Aside from the Source of their creation, they influence the birth of all things, then sustain the life of the same for a period, and then complete or end its existence, which completes the process.
While it is a general view that each quality is expected to influence its specific zodiac sign greatly, you may find that this is not an occurrence that is set in stone—especially where the Sun sign, or physical being, is concerned. You are far more likely to follow your feelings and emotions, which are governed by your Moon sign, when making quality adjustments. This is because we are inclined to start, maintain, and end things according to the needs of family, friends, finances, children, and, more often than all of them, your significant or intimate other. Those just mentioned are among the determining factors in which of the qualities, or set of qualities, you are likely to display and execute.
From a more precise view, we live in practice of our qualities on a daily basis, beginning with when we awake from sleep, which can be deemed cardinal. Then we make our way through our daily lives, which can be seen as our fixed routine. Finally, we make the adjustments to complete our daily routine, which can be seen as the mutable quality.
The individual strengths and weaknesses of the qualities are likely to be more pronounced when you have entered the house position of a specific quality. When you enter the zodiac sign house of a specific quality, you are also likely to be driven or highly influenced by the things and people born under the signs of the house you have entered.
Within any period of time, we are inclined to start quality cycles, enter quality cycles that have already begun, and manage quality cycles to completion a countless number of times within a day. They can be as simple as starting breakfast, eating breakfast, and finishing breakfast. Or getting ready for school or work, heading to school or work, arriving to school or work, then initiating another quality cycle by starting school or work. Engaging in quality cycles is simply an addition to our way of life.
Where we do not doubt that the qualities are an absolute part of the laws of existence, and we all possess them and are affected by them, we have found that when relating them to people, their effects can only be appointed randomly and speculatively while something is happening or after something has happened or been decided.
As the qualities have been appointed to specific zodiac signs, and we each possess them all, their positions in our Life Charts can help us distinguish our strengths, weaknesses, and neutralities, as well as where and when they are subject to occur. Furthermore, when our Sun sign's qualities and Moon sign's qualities occupy different house positions, we may experience starters who don't start but complete, or completers who don't complete but start, or maintainers who don't maintain anything.
This is why we believe that knowledge of Moon sign house positions and qualities far outweighs that of Sun sign house positions and qualities, which is due to our Moon signs representing our dispositions or feelings. If we don't feel like starting, maintaining, or finishing something, our bodies or Sun signs are highly likely to follow our feelings or Moon signs.
Of course, there are times when we will find the same Sun and Moon sign qualities are more likely to cooperate. This occurs under dire circumstances or troubling conditions, such as needs of family and survival, which has encouraged many to start, maintain, and complete regardless of their zodiac signs and appointed quality positions. In comparison, many others may have given up altogether, regardless of their zodiac signs and appointed quality positions. Free will, ability, desire, and countless additional factors account for our being able to control, suppress, and express those things associated with our qualities.
On the other hand, the qualities have proven to be far more accurate, visibly seen, and usable in relation to things like the four seasons, planetary and moon cycles, spawning and mating animals, and most everything that has a natural independent life cycle but does not possess free will, common sense, or discernment. Their qualities are enacted solely by God's command, the laws of nature and existence, or whatever you prefer to call it. Humanity may meddle or interfere, but nature runs the unassisted process and instinctive proof of quality existence.
Recognize that the qualities exist to complement your knowledge of astrology and for personal comfort as life goes on. If these lessons seem complicated, it is because between work, family, and other projects, lengthy information is being condensed into a few minutes. The goal is not to confuse but to clarify.
